About this venue

The National Railway Museum is the largest of its kind in the world. The venue, steeped in heritage and history, is also perfect for meetings, conferences, and receptions.

The National Railway Museum's dedicated conference centre offers two fully equipped rooms that are available joined together to host up to 100 delegates, along with adjoining breakout areas. Free parking and Wi-Fi for delegates come as standard, along with ergonomic furniture.

The awe-inspiring Great Hall - home to a stunning display of the finest locomotives, including Mallard - the world's fastest steam train- is ideal for large receptions and dinners. The stunning platform setting of Station Hall, with its unique, luxurious collection of Royal Carriages, caters for award ceremonies and gala dinners up to 450 guests (coming September 2025)

    Mallard Suite

    Capacity: 120

    Named after the legendary steam locomotive Mallard, the Mallard Suite is perfect for larger conferences. The space benefits from a dedicated breakout room for catering, networking or accompanying exhibitions. The Mallard Suite can also be combined with the Rocket Room.

    Rocket Room

    Capacity: 26

    The Rocket Room is a bright and flexible space for smaller presentations and meetings. It can be used on its own or in combination with the Mallard Suite for larger conferences.

    Home to many achievements in railway history, including the legendary speed record-breaker, the Mallard. Great Hall is the perfect location to immerse yourself in railway history. Guests can get up close and personal with this iconic 1938 locomotive, as well as many others from the national collection.

    The Bramall Gallery: Wonderlab

    Looking for an exciting new venue to private-hire? Wonderlab: The Bramall Gallery will explore the how, what and why that underpin the creation of the railways. This unique gallery is perfect to wow your guests and get them thinking BIG. An exciting opportunity to use the space for private hire, drinks receptions, canapes, food bowls or buffets.

Location

The National Railway Museum is ideally located in the heart of York, with great train links and plenty of onsite parking for delegates. A new route through the York Central development has now opened. This route replaces a section of Leeman Road, changing the access routes to the National Railway Museum from the south and city centre. The museum is a short walk from York station, clearly signposted for car or on foot.
